Sharing n0tice activity on Facebook

If you wish to amplify your activity on n0tice through your social networks you will enjoy using the new Facebook sharing app.  It will only take a moment to activate it and begin spreading your posts virally.

You will find the activation button on your n0tice profile settings page.  Look for the Social Networks tab:

You must connect n0tice with Facebook first.  You’ll see a button to do that on the ‘Social Networks’ tab.

When you’ve activated the app, n0tice will post things you do on n0tice to your activity stream on Facebook.  n0tice will automatically update your Facebook page when you follow people and noticeboards, star things you find interesting, or post reports, events or offers to n0tice.  The app does not share passive actions to your Facebook page such as what you are reading on n0tice.com, only explicit actions that you trigger such as following, posting, reposting, and voting.

The n0tice app for Facebook will help spread things you are doing on n0tice further around the world and help others to discover what’s happening.

It’s a great way to spread the word about local issues and events that you care about.  You may also find it’s useful for finding a buyer for something you’re trying to sell.  And if you run a noticeboard you’ll find this app may help you develop a stronger community around it.

Give it a try.  It’s really easy and surprisingly fun.

If you want to deactivate the n0tice app for Facebook you can change the privacy settings in Facebook, or you can turn it off completely via your settings page on n0tice.com.  You will see be a big red button for deactivating the app in the Social Networks tab.

Five great noticeboards to inspire

One of the features with n0tice.com is the ability for our users to be able to create and personalise their own noticeboards.

Having a distinct URL means that a group, organisation or group can pass on the address to colleagues and friends and collaborate to build up and share important information, news events and offers.

The feature’s only been on offer for about a week and we’ve been taken aback by the number of people getting started on them.

Here’s a pick of five to check out this week:

1. tarbertlochfyne.n0tice.com

Super early in from the Scottish Highlands this noticeboard with its personalised background of an image from area and custom font has it’s own style and is flagging up news and events from Mid-Argylle and Kintyre.

Things we’ve learned this week include news that Argyll FM will soon be back on air and details about the Tarbert Music Centre’s quiz night.

2. uckfield.n0tice.com

Away down south and we find the fledgling Uckfield News. Doing what it says on the tin, sharing news about the East Sussex town on a clean customised page.

Content includes this Wordle showing off the stories of the week also published at www.uckfieldnews.com which included good news for organisations fund-raising to build an all weather sports pitch.

3. chester.n0tice.com

Sharing some serious events from Chester, this noticeboard hasn’t been customised to the same extent but shows how using the basic layout can have impact for an area.

Content has featured police e-fits and information and the local NHS foundation trust.

4. wolvesparkies.n0tice.com

Taking a different tack, the park rangers of Wolverhampton have cheered up their noticeboard with their trademark cartoon characters sharing news about the city’s great outdoors.

News postings have included an announcement about the closure of the Claregate Pavillion in Tettenhall due to a suspected arson attack.

5. insideuni.n0tice.com

Here’s an interesting idea – news specifically aimed at UK university students. Using a clean page design this noticeboard shares stories about universities as well as events of interest to students.

Things we’ve learned this week include news about a surveillance drone created by Middlesex University engineers and Kingston University’s training sessions with riot police.

Spreadsheet of sharing sites now at 20

This time last week we had ten – now we’ve doubled it with your help.

Here at n0tice we’re doing some research into sharing sites and apps, those places UK and elsewhere where people are coming together to share stuff – whether that’s an oversupply of allotment veg or a review of a favourite bar.
You can see the list here; Spreadsheet of sharing sites

In fact if you count up all those services on the Facebook group that came forward, there’s even more than 20.

And of course there’s plenty of room for more – feel free to add to the spreadsheet or let us know in the comments below about your sharing experiences.

Thanks for your help and interest – have a great weekend!
